FROM NURSING TO THE LAW
Lara’s journey into criminal defense wasn’t automatic. Before she even considered applying to law school, she spent over fifteen years in healthcare, starting as a nurse aide, then working as both a bedside nurse and school nurse. She has also taught courses on the college level as an adjunct for over ten years. This unique background has given her insight into how federal, state, and municipal law embeds itself into our everyday lives, in health, education, administration, and more.
Lara has always been a passionate advocate for those in her charge, and criminal defense became the obvious next step in her career. Nurses operate as the first line of defense for their patients, and school nurses are tasked with understanding a variety of specialties both within healthcare and outside to advocate effectively on a variety of fronts for their students. This same background shapes how Lara manages her workload and priorities, approaching clients with steady, trauma-informed, prompt communication during some of the hardest moments of their lives. Lara believes that every client, regardless of circumstances, is entitled to due process, a zealous defense, and dignified treatment through the legal process, because liberty and justice for all means all.
From a young age, Lara has had a thirst for knowledge. She became board-certified as a school nurse only three years into that profession. She also started interning at The Collin County Law Group before starting law school to start getting practical experience early. She frequently participates in professional development activities for criminal defense attorneys.
Outside of work, she dedicates her free time to her family, friends, and dogs. She enjoys reading and crafting.
